Floating Worlds: Japanese Woodcuts

Exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints from the Edo period (1615-1868). Ukiyo-e ('pictures of the floating world') typically show pleasurable activities in beautiful surroundings, from rural and mountain landscapes to the entertainments found in the city of Edo (now Tokyo), including scenes of Kabuki theatre, firework displays and private spaces. There are 60 prints in the show and artists include Kunisada, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Utamaro and Tsukimaro.
