GF Watts: England's Michelangelo

Major exhibition of work by Victorian painter G F Watts (1817-1904) including work from public collections in the UK and abroad. Now best-known for his portrait of his first wife actress Ellen Terry (National Portrait Gallery), Watts was a painter, sculptor and fresco maker, famous in his lifetime for allegorical and symbolist works. Late in his life, and together with his wife Mary, Watts established a home, an artistic community, chapel and purpose-built gallery at Compton in Surrey.
